February 11, 2006
On Saturday February 11th at 9:00 a.m. the Ridge Route Preservation Organization (RRPO) assembled a volunteer work party at the Ridge Route Museum and Historical Society to initiate project CUTRR "Clean Up The Ridge Route." This was the first in a series of work projects RRPO plans this year. After coffee and donuts Carl Marsee, RRPO Treasurer outlined what work would be done and assigned two or more people to each identified site that needed attention. After general instructions a caravan was formed and we proceeded to the various work sites on the old Ridge Route. RRPO provided water and a porta-potty at the work locations. (A 4 mile section of the road is open between Sandberg's and the Tumble Inn site).
The main objective was to clear drains and remove trash along the road. Failed drains caused considerable damage during the 2005 rain storms. Dirt, brush and rocks blocked most of the locations we identified for attention. It turned out to be a beautiful day and all participants enjoyed donating their time and effort to save the road. Some of the volunteers came a great distance to help. One arrived from Sacramento, another from San Diego. Others came in from Santa Barbara and Buena Park.
