A
small Richfield gas station, garage and lunch counter
located on the west side of the highway. Green and white sleeping
cabins were available directly across the road in a grove of Pepper
trees. The earliest date I have for this establishment is 1920
from an add promoting their garage, gas and lunch. A 1926 motor
guide states: "Garage, reputed very fair." Porter B. Markel and
his sister Ruth owned the station. The location today supports
a large home with a red tile roof. It sits on a small knoll on
the east side of the road.
